Description
Specify the depth in millimetres of the PTW rear tyre tread.
This measurement can be used to determine if the rear wheel tread depth is within the local authority legal standard
(e.g. UK government regulation is 1 mm minimum for motorcycles over 49cc).
(OECD RS9/TEG/ 151 information)
Tread depth measurement is accomplished by using a metric or imperial tread depth gauge which is commercially available through many automotive supply facilities.
Measure the tread depth at the center of the tread with the depth gauge.
The tire may wear unevenly therefore it is best to take measurements at several places and compute the average tread depth (see Figures 1, 2 and 3).
