Description
State the level of adjustment to the PTW steering stem.
The following procedures and guidelines should be used.
1. Raise the front wheel off the ground using the centerstand (if any).
2. From the centered position of the fork slowly push the handlebar to the other side.
If the handlebar begins to turn without the aid of additional force application (i.e. due to gravity) then the steering stem is not over tightened (response 2).
If the handlebar does not begin to turn due to gravity then the steering stem is overly tightened (response 3).
3. If the handlebar does begin to turn freely, kneel in front of the motorcycle and while facing the motorcycle grasp the lower ends of the front fork and gently push and pull on the front forks.
If there is play in the front fork then the steering stem is considered to be loose.
If the amount of play in the front forks is 2 mm or less then the steering stem is considered loose and could contribute to control difficulty (response 4).
If there is greater than 2 mm of play in the front forks then the steering stem adjustment is considered very loose and could contribute to control interference (response 4).
